The DSW solves prevention based education.

DSW (www.weltbevoelkerung.de/en/pdfs/ff_fight_fistula.pdf)
DSW regards prevention as key to eradicating fistula. Therefore, education and family
planning services form the main strategies of the “Fight Fistula!” project, which started
in July 2006 as part of DSW’s Youth-to-Youth (Y2Y) programme in Ethiopia. Fight
Fistula! is implemented in the Amhara Region, a region characterised by low levels of
reproductive health knowledge and services. Early marriage is most common, exposing
girls and young women to multiple health-related problems. The problem of
fistula is one of the health impacts that result from early marriage in this region.
Fight Fistula! establishes the link between the provision of reproductive health information
and access to adequate medical care and treatment services. Former fistula
patients play a key role as they serve as advocates for other women on the importance
of prenatal care and seeking medical intervention in time to avoid injury.
